Tai Chi is Chinese traditional exercise derived from martial arts originating in China.
Tai Chi is characterised by gentle, fluid circular movements that are relaxed and performed slowly either in sitting or standing. Breathing control is slow and deep assisting concentration and enabling the body to relax.
Tai Chi exercises the mind as well as the body. The intended benefits of Tai Chi are:
- decreased pain and stiffness
- increased flexibility of the joints
- increased muscle strength
- improved co-ordination and balance
- improving body posture
- encouraging a sense of calm and tranquillity
