Ice Therapy/Cryotherapy

Ice therapy is very effective in reducing swelling and reducing pain. In the department an ice pack is applied for a maximum of fifteen minutes to the area affected.

Oil or an alternative barrier (for those suffering from nut allergies) is applied to the area before applying the pack to prevent the ice from burning and the pack is wrapped in a towel.

This can be continued at home on a regular basis with advice from the Physiotherapist.
